The lack of sensibility is a major component in the limited functionality of current myoelectric prosthetic systems. Therefore, a feedback loop is being developed to give the user more than only visual information concerning the status of the prosthesis, e.g. position of the hand, level of rotation of the wrist, grip force.
As feedback system options, both electro- and vibrotactile stimulation of skin of the residual skin will be investigated and evaluated. The former involves electrical stimulation of the skin, while with the latter the skin is stimulated by means of vibration.
